Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality in Europe and worldwide and, in addition to countless human tragedies, represent a significant economic burden on healthcare systems. While some countries have made significant strides in the fight against CVD in recent years, concerted action at the European level appears to be the most effective. What strategic approach should the European Union take to address cardiovascular disease?
